Protocol Update 23 (11/5/2026) is the most anticipated technical event by the community. In just a few days, on 11/5/2026, Pi will officially activate Protocol 23. This upgrade for the first time brings Smart Contracts onto the Pi blockchain. It paves the way for complex decentralized applications (dApps), decentralized finance (DeFi), internal decentralized exchanges (DEX), and token and NFT issuance directly on the Pi network.

The two founders of Pi, Dr. Chengdiao Fan and Nicolas Kokkalis, attended and spoke at the world's largest cryptocurrency event - Consensus 2026.
Dr. Fan delivered a speech emphasizing the project's focus on "real-world utility rather than speculation," connecting Web3, AI, and Blockchain.
Nicolas Kokkalis offered a very practical perspective in the era of AI boom: using Pi's massive network of over 18 million verified (KYC) users to solve the problem of "proving you're human on the internet" without leaking personal data (Doxing).
2026 marks Pi's gradual removal of the "firewall" to enter the fully open Mainnet era.
Connectivity network: Pi has begun allowing connections with other blockchains and external wallets, transforming Pi into an utility token that can be exchanged more freely.
Pi Desktop App Studio: Launched in early May 2026, this "no-code" platform helps users easily create dApps on Pi without requiring complex programming knowledge.
Pi Launchpad: Has released a testnet version, enabling new projects to launch, issue tokens, and raise funds directly from the Pi community within the ecosystem.
Currently, the Pi ecosystem has over 300 active dApps, ranging from e-commerce (like PiChainMall) to social media platforms.
