President Trump gave the European Union until July 4 to finalize the trade pact agreed at Turnberry last summer, warning that tariffs would jump to "much higher levels" if Brussels misses the date.

The deadline followed what Trump called a "great call" with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. He posted the warning on Truth Social on Thursday, framing the date around the United States' 250th birthday.

The move appears to extend his earlier threat to hit EU autos with 25% tariffs starting this week. Under the original Turnberry framework, the US set a 15% rate on most EU goods, and the bloc committed to $750 billion in US energy purchases.

"A promise was made that the EU would deliver their side of the Deal," Trump wrote.
