Kimbal Musk, Elon Musk’s brother, once again drew attention with his sharp post on X. Recently, he criticized Trump’s policies, saying that record taxes would be introduced through tariffs. Interestingly, the criticism came from a person who, in theory, should support his brother, but the Musk family has always had a complex dynamic.

Few people know the details of this mysterious billionaire’s life. Kimbal is 52 years old and has a fortune of about $700 million, mostly thanks to a small stake in Tesla (0.04%). At the same time, he is known for his love of cowboy hats—this is his signature look that sets him apart from other members of the family.

Elon Musk’s brother was born in Pretoria, just like his older brother. They have a lot in common: the same jaw shape, the structure of their noses, and green eyes. Both hold South African, Canadian, and American citizenship. But Kimbal’s path turned out differently—he is more focused on social initiatives and caring for the planet.

The Musk family has been through difficult times. Kimbal, his older brother Elon, and their younger sister Tosca (who is 50) faced violence from their father during childhood. This led their mother, Maye, to get divorced in 1979. After that, the family emigrated to Canada, and then to the United States.

Little is known that both brothers—Elon and Kimbal—co-founded their first startup, Zip2, a company specializing in business software for the internet. In 1999, they sold the project to Compaq for $307 million. That was the start of their subsequent ambitious projects. Despite different views and criticism, Elon Musk’s brother remains an important part of the family’s success story.
