Extreme weather hits Buenos Aires and surrounding areas in Argentina
The capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires City, and surrounding areas saw strong winds and rain over the past 7 days, resulting in flooded streets and power outages in some areas. It is reported that in the early hours of that day, Buenos Aires City recorded more than 20 millimeters of rainfall within one hour. The hailstones were the size of golf balls, and wind speeds exceeded 80 kilometers per hour. Severe weather caused power outages in some areas of Buenos Aires City and nearby cities such as Lanús and Quilmes, with multiple streets flooded. On the afternoon of the 6th, about 180 kilometers from Argentina’s capital, a tornado struck Las Flores County in Buenos Aires Province, nearly completely destroying a house. Four trapped people were taken to the hospital by rescue personnel. Argentina’s National Meteorological Service said that strong winds are expected to continue affecting most of the country.
