I just reviewed a recent ranking of the most expensive cities in the world, and honestly, it's surprising to see how Switzerland completely dominates the list. Zurich, Geneva, and Basel occupy the top three positions, confirming what many already suspected: living in Switzerland is extremely costly. Zurich's score is around 112.5 points, approximately 12.5% more expensive than New York, which serves as the baseline reference.

The interesting thing is that it's not just Switzerland. The United States also has a strong presence, with New York as the most expensive city in America and seventh globally. San Francisco, Seattle, and Boston appear lower on the list, all driven by the tech boom. Honolulu also stands out with very high costs, typical of an island with limited real estate demand.

In Asia, Singapore leads the region but falls outside the top 10 globally. It's curious that despite being an economic powerhouse, its costs don't reach European levels. Norway also deserves special mention: Oslo, Trondheim, and Bergen all compete for spots in the top 25, making Scandinavia another notoriously expensive region.

What stands out the most is the gap. Cities in the top 5 like Geneva are almost twice as expensive as cities like Los Angeles or San Diego, which hover around 76 points. That means living in Geneva costs nearly 50% more than on the California coast. Definitely, if you're looking for the most expensive city in the world to live in, Switzerland remains the place where your money stretches the least.
