Techub News reports that, according to TechCrunch, Toronto police have arrested three men and filed 44 charges, accusing them of operating SMS blaster devices since November 2025, sending phishing messages to tens of thousands of phones to steal banking credentials. The devices trick phones into connecting by disguising as stronger signal base stations, sending messages containing fake login links. Police say the device is "specially customized" and installed at the rear of vehicles for mobile operations, marking the first such case in Canada. Currently, the suspects have been arrested, and police advise users to turn off the 2G network to prevent attacks.
