Eni’s Geliga-1 passes DST, strengthening the outlook for a new gas hub in Indonesia

📌 Eni has reported positive Drill Stem Test results at the Geliga-1 well offshore East Kalimantan, turning the gas discovery announced in April into an asset with clearer development potential. The key update is not only the confirmed resource scale, but also the strong flow performance shown during testing.
🔎 During the well test, Geliga-1 reached a maximum gas flow of 60 MMSCFD, a level limited by drilling equipment. Eni estimates that each well could sustainably produce around 200 MMSCFD of gas and 10,000 barrels of condensate per day, while total confirmed resources stand at around 5 Tcf of gas and 300 million barrels of condensate.
💡 The broader significance lies in the potential to combine Geliga-1 with the nearby Gula discovery to form a third production hub in the Kutei Basin. If developed together, this asset cluster could add around 1 Bscfd of gas and 80,000 barrels of condensate per day, creating a meaningful new supply source for Southeast Asia.
⏱️ From a corporate perspective, Ganal PSC is currently 82% held by Eni and 18% by Sinopec, while Eni is restructuring its Indonesia portfolio through a joint venture with Petronas. The positive DST result could increase the appeal of this portfolio, especially as Indonesia needs more domestic gas supply to reduce LNG import pressure.
✅ The next catalyst will be the development plan expected to be submitted to the Indonesian government in the coming weeks. If the fast-track process moves smoothly, Geliga-1 could become one of the key highlights in Eni’s Asian gas strategy toward the end of this decade.
