You’ve probably heard about this collective obsession with aliens and UFOs. Conspiracy theorists keep telling us that governments are hiding the truth from us about civilizations from space. But honestly, I think Elon Musk is asking a much more relevant question than all these far-fetched theories.
Musk shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter): if aliens were actually visiting Earth, where would the evidence be? Today, billions of people have smartphones with high-resolution cameras. Logically, there should be massive eyewitness accounts and high-quality videos. Yet what you find on YouTube remains strangely blurry and unconvincing. That’s a pretty solid argument when you think about it.
But there’s more. The distances between planetary systems are astronomical—literally. For a hypothetical alien spacecraft to reach us with a living crew would require technology and energy resources we can’t even imagine. That’s why Elon Musk remains skeptical about this question.
What struck me is that Edward Snowden—that guy who had access to the secrets of the CIA, the NSA, and the U.S. military—admitted in 2019 in an interview with Joe Rogan that he had found no solid evidence of extraterrestrial presence on Earth. Even he, with all his privileged access, discovered nothing.
Of course, the lack of evidence doesn’t mean unexplained phenomena don’t exist. Snowden himself admitted that there’s probably “something unexplained” in all of this. And recently, the Pentagon has indeed released documents and videos showing encounters between pilots and UFOs—the agency even acknowledges that these objects could have an extraterrestrial origin.
Meanwhile, astronomers have scanned millions of stars in search of signals of extraterrestrial life. Result? Nothing conclusive so far. Maybe that’s the real mystery—not a major conspiracy, but simply the immensity of the universe and our current limitations in understanding it.
