There is one thing that always intrigues me about Bitcoin: Satoshi Nakamoto's fortune. The anonymous creator of Bitcoin is probably one of the richest people in the world, but no one knows who he is. Very strange.
According to blockchain analyses, Satoshi Nakamoto's fortune is estimated at around 120 billion dollars, which would place him in 11th position among the wealthiest individuals on the planet. All of this is based on about 1.1 million Bitcoins he mined early on, between 2009 and 2010, when the network was almost nobody using it.
To get an idea of the proportion, these 1.1 million BTC represent approximately 5.2% of the total Bitcoin supply that exists. That is a huge amount of coins.
Now, here’s the point that really makes me think: the price of Bitcoin has fluctuated quite a bit recently. It was close to $112,000 not long ago, but now it’s around $80,890. Even with this drop, Satoshi Nakamoto’s fortune remains one of the largest in the world if he truly owns all those Bitcoins.
But here comes the real mystery: none of these coins have been moved in over a decade. Nothing. Zero transactions. This leaves two open questions: Does Satoshi really have access to these funds? Or perhaps he is dead? Or simply doesn’t want to touch this wealth for some reason? The truth is, nobody knows. And this uncertainty is what makes Satoshi Nakamoto’s fortune story so fascinating for market followers.
