CoinWorld News reports that Steve Newman, co-founder of Google Docs and chairman of the AI think tank Golden Gate Institute, released an analysis of the AI status in the second quarter of 2026, pointing out that the overall completion of the quantitative forecast for AI 2027 is about 65%, but the most critical “AI software development acceleration factor” has only reached 17% of the predicted value.
This figure is mainly supported by benchmark scores and data center construction progress, rather than truly reflecting AI’s capability leap in the real world.
Newman believes that AI is still a “normal technology,” constrained by traditional friction such as slow deployment and difficulty in enterprise integration.
Nevertheless, he also listed evidence to the contrary, noting that Anthropic’s annual revenue more than doubled in 2025, and tripled again in the first three months of 2026, expected to reach $30 billion.
Newman also presented two scenarios: a conservative scenario where the model begins accelerating its own development in 2026, making AI’s impact on the economy and science increasingly significant; an aggressive scenario where the script for AI 2027 is delayed by several years, with AI fully taking over its own development.
