I took a look at the 2025 data on the 50 poorest countries in the world, and it's quite striking. South Sudan ranks first with only $251 GDP per capita, followed by Yemen at $417 and Burundi at $490. Honestly, it gives a completely different perspective when you see these figures side by side.

Most of the world's poorest countries are concentrated in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The DRC, Niger, Somalia all have GDP per capita between $700 and $800. Even Nigeria, with its huge population, doesn't exceed $807 per capita.

What struck me is that India reaches $2,878 at the end of this list of the 50 poorest countries in the world. It really shows the massive economic gap that exists on the planet. Differences that go far beyond simple statistics.
