Abstract generation in progress

President Gustavo Petro said Colombia, where up to 75% of electricity comes from renewable sources, could use surplus clean energy to build Bitcoin mining hubs on the Caribbean coast. Petro named Barranquilla, Santa Marta and Riohacha as potential hubs. Petro said the Wayuu community could receive co-ownership in the project. Colombia has not yet set policy frameworks, mining licenses, or tariff agreements for the plan.
