U.S. President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of the Treasury has been questioned by the court. U.S. District Judge Catherine Williams pointed out that, given Trump’s actual influence over both parties in the lawsuit, there is doubt as to whether there is a “genuine adversarial controversy,” and asked the Department of Justice to submit a written explanation by May 20, clarifying how the court has jurisdiction to hear the case. In January of this year, President Trump filed a lawsuit in federal court, suing the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the IRS, accusing them of illegally leaking his personal tax return information during his first presidential term, and seeking at least $10 billion in damages.
