U.S. White House press secretary Leavitt confirmed on the 24th that President Trump’s special envoy, Wittekov, and his son-in-law, Kushner, will travel to Pakistan before the morning of the 25th to discuss negotiations with Iran. Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign minister, Araghzi, arrived in Pakistan on the 24th. In an interview with the media, Leavitt said that all members of the U.S. negotiation delegation, including Vice President Vance, are on standby at any time and, if necessary, will fly to Pakistan. Wittekov and Kushner will go first, and then report to Trump, Vance, Secretary of State Rubio, and others. Leavitt also said that over the past two days, the U.S. has seen “some progress” from Iran and hopes the talks over this weekend will make more progress.

Earlier that day, CNN reported that Trump would send Wittekov and Kushner to Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, to meet with Araghzi this weekend. Because Iran’s Islamic Parliament Speaker Kalibaf will not attend, Vance does not plan to depart at this time. However, if the talks make progress, Vance will head to Islamabad at any time. On the 24th, Araghzi announced that he would visit Pakistan, Oman, and Russia. That evening, Pakistani sources said that Araghzi had arrived at the Nur Khan Air Base near Islamabad, where he will discuss the preconditions for Iran-U.S. negotiations with Pakistani officials; if progress is made, Iran is expected to further engage in direct negotiations with U.S. representatives.
