ChainCatcher News: On Wednesday, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said at the San Francisco Code With Claude developer conference that the company’s first-quarter revenue and its customers’ AI usage had grown by 80 times, which took the company by surprise. He said the company had originally planned for 10-fold year-over-year growth, but the actual growth far exceeded expectations, leading to tight supply of computing power.

Anthropic’s annualized revenue grew from nearly $1 billion at the end of 2024 to $9 billion by the end of the year, and by early April this year it had jumped to $30 billion. Strong demand for Claude Code and work agents nearly enabled the company to meet its full-year forecast ahead of schedule last month. To ease the pressure on computing power, Anthropic signed total computing-power supply contracts of 10 gigawatts with Amazon and Google over the past month, and on Thursday announced that it will use all the computing power of Colossus 1—its first data center in Memphis operated by xAI—within the next month. Amodei said the company will continue to obtain as much computing power as possible.
