The California man sentenced to 78 months for stealing $250 million in cryptocurrency

A man in California was sentenced to 78 months in prison for participating in a nationwide social engineering scam, accused of stealing over $250 million in crypto assets.

This individual is Marlon Ferro, 20 years old, also known by the nickname “GothFerrari.” In addition to prison time, he faces three years of probation and must pay $2.5 million in restitution.

Prosecutors stated that Ferro was the “last resort” of the organization, used to break into private homes and steal hardware wallets when accomplices could not access victims’ accounts through scams or cyberattacks. The group is also accused of hacking databases, identifying targets, making scam calls, money laundering, and theft.

According to investigation records, Ferro broke into a house in Texas in February 2024 and stole a hardware wallet containing about 100 bitcoins, worth over $5 million at that time. He was also recorded on surveillance cameras in a different incident in New Mexico in July 2024, before being arrested in May 2025.

When arrested, Ferro was carrying two guns and a fake ID. He pleaded guilty in October 2025.
