California man sentenced to 78 months in prison for involvement in $250 million crypto theft

Deep Tide TechFlow News, May 7th, according to The Block, the U.S. federal court sentenced California man Marlon Ferro (online alias “GothFerrari”) to 78 months in prison, with three years of supervised release and a $2.5 million fine. Ferro was involved in a nationwide social engineering scam spanning late 2023 to early 2025, involving over $250 million in cryptocurrency assets.

The criminal group employed methods including database hacking, scam calls, money laundering, and home burglaries, targeting victims holding large amounts of crypto assets. Ferro had twice broken into homes to steal hardware wallets and assisted in money laundering. U.S. prosecutors stated that this sentence sends a clear signal: crypto fraud is a serious criminal offense and will face federal imprisonment.
