The waste-sorting work environment is harsh, with high health risks for employees and high turnover. To address this, a waste treatment company in the UK has specifically “trained” humanoid robot waste sorters to improve work efficiency.

According to a BBC report, the company is located in Rainham in the east of London and is operated by the family business “Sharp Group.” On the conveyor belt, trash such as old shoes, videotapes, and even concrete blocks flows into the factory, and 24 employees take turns working, sorting about 280,000 tons of waste each year.

The company said that, due to limitations of the work environment, although it maintains very high safety standards, the incidence rate of work-related injuries and diseases caused by work is still about 45% higher than in other industries, and the annual employee turnover rate is as high as 40%.
