During the 2026 “May Day” holiday (May 1 to May 5, a total of 5 days), a policy will be implemented to exempt small passenger cars with seven seats or fewer from toll fees. It is expected that overall traffic on expressways will remain high during this year’s “May Day” period, mainly consisting of short- to medium-distance travel such as tourism, vacationing, visiting relatives and friends. The total travel volume across the province will significantly increase, with traffic pressure mainly concentrated in the Greater Bay Area, where small passenger cars account for a higher proportion. It is estimated that the average daily vehicle flow during this year’s “May Day” holiday will be approximately 10.1233 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of about 10.39%. Among them: the average daily vehicle flow on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is about 25k vehicles, a 6.67% increase; the Humen Bridge averages about 154.8k vehicles daily, a 1.04% decrease; the Nansha Bridge averages about 201.6k vehicles daily, a 3.77% increase; the Huangpu Bridge averages about 188k vehicles daily, a 4.95% increase; and the Shenzhong Passage averages about 176.7k vehicles daily, a 6.57% increase.
