Trump says an agreement with Iran could be reached "within a week," but two major core disagreements remain unresolved
BlockBeats message, May 7 — Trump said there is hope that an agreement could be reached with Iran “within a week,” but Iran has still not accepted two core demands from the U.S. side. Iran said it is reviewing the ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States and will respond to the U.S. via mediation channels such as Pakistan.
It is reported that the United States is asking Iran to pause its nuclear program, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, ship high-enriched uranium to the United States, and stop operating underground nuclear facilities. Trump said that the U.S. and Iran “have had very good dialogue in the past 24 hours,” and that the probability of reaching an agreement is “very high.”
However, Iranian officials and members of parliament have expressed dissatisfaction with the U.S. proposal, saying it is “more like the Americans’ wish list than reality.” An Iranian lawmaker said that the U.S. cannot get what it cannot obtain at the negotiating table through war.
Trump also again threatened that if Iran rejects the agreement, the U.S. will “carry out bombing.” He also said that even if oil prices rise to $200 per barrel, this war “is still worth it.” At present, U.S. gasoline prices have risen to their highest level since 2022.
