CryptoWorld News reports that, according to the Financial Times of the UK, under immense pressure from the United States and the fossil fuel industry, the European Commission is considering suspending methane emission fines during the energy supply crisis to dilute rules targeting this greenhouse gas leak. The European Commission plans to introduce new monitoring, reporting, and verification rules next year for methane leaks and combustion related to fossil fuel imports, but the Middle East crisis has sparked many calls to postpone these measures. In the latest draft guidelines issued to national agencies that will enforce these rules starting January 2027, the European Commission states that implementing related fines during the crisis may "worsen supply security and threaten continuity."
