On May 6, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, warned that AI has revealed a large number of long-hidden software vulnerabilities, putting global tech companies, governments, and financial institutions at a critical risk. They must complete repairs within a limited timeframe, or face the threat of large-scale cybersecurity attacks and financial losses. Amodei noted that Anthropic’s latest AI model, Mythos, discovered tens of thousands of software vulnerabilities during testing, some of which have existed for decades and involve critical foundational software systems. He stated that AI is significantly amplifying the scale of cybersecurity risks, with potential massive increases in the number of vulnerabilities, intrusion incidents, and financial losses caused by ransomware affecting schools, hospitals, and even banks.
