Techub News reports that, according to TechCrunch, Aurora Innovation announced a commercial agreement with distribution giant McLane to deploy driverless trucks on the Dallas to Houston route, with no safety driver onboard but equipped with human observers, planning to expand to more distribution center routes in the U.S. Sun Belt region by the end of the year. The two parties launched a pilot project in 2023, initially with safety operators, and have now been approved to operate driverlessly seven days a week. After long-distance transportation in Aurora trucks, cargo will be handed over to McLane drivers at the destination for local delivery. This partnership marks an important step in the company’s transition from technology development to commercial operation, having previously reached similar agreements with Detmar Logistics and Hirschbach Motor Lines.
