Techub News reports, citing Blockonomi, that SpaceX plans to invest 55 billion dollars in its Terafab chip facility in Austin, Texas. The total project investment may ultimately reach 119 billion dollars, far exceeding Morgan Stanley’s previous estimates. The facility will produce chips for autonomous driving, robotics, and orbital computing, using Intel’s 14A process. Musk said the factory is crucial to meeting the demand for AI chips; early funding will be covered mainly by SpaceX, and it will not affect Tesla’s finances in the short term.
