I recently needed to register some overseas accounts for testing and found that SMS verification platforms are truly lifesavers. I've tried several before, some of which didn't receive messages at all, others had ridiculous delays, and only later did I find a few that worked pretty well.

Honestly, using virtual numbers for verification seems simple, but choosing the wrong platform can be really frustrating. I’ve learned the hard way that shared number ranges are often flagged for risk, and verification codes for less popular apps tend to be delayed. My conclusion is, if you're just using it temporarily, any stable SMS platform will do. But if you need to register in bulk, it's best to have multiple numbers ready so you can switch quickly when one becomes invalid.

SMS-Activate is the most frequently used; verification codes usually arrive within 10 seconds, it covers many countries, and is suitable for cross-border testing. 5SIM also has a user-friendly interface, clear API documentation, and I’ve tested it with Google and Twitter registration without issues. For domestic apps, Super Cloud SMS and Little Bird Verification perform well; US number ranges typically receive messages in 10-30 seconds, Chinese ranges are even faster, sometimes within 5-20 seconds. Getsmscode is mainly cheap and suitable for light use, but may be slower on less popular platforms.

When using verification platforms, be aware that some numbers are shared and can be flagged as risky. Switching to a different number range usually solves this. Also, don’t expect to use a virtual number long-term; privacy and security are not guaranteed. My advice is to choose reputable, active SMS platforms that support APIs, so you can automate the interface testing and save effort. Additionally, some platforms support "one-click number switching," which is very practical and helps avoid waste.

Overall, SMS verification platforms are just a way to temporarily rent a phone number, protecting your privacy and making various testing and verification easier. If you pick the right platform, it won’t be too troublesome.
