I've noticed that many newcomers in crypto get confused about the concept of altseason and don't understand how to track it. Let's figure out what it really is and why it's important for traders.
Essentially, altseason is when altcoins start to grow massively and outperform Bitcoin in returns. It's not just a random price jump on a certain coin, but a broader trend where the entire alt market moves upward. The altseason indicator shows the ratio of the market capitalization of altcoins to the total crypto market capitalization, expressed as a percentage.
When this indicator is high, it signals that altseason is in full swing. Altcoins demonstrate significant growth, and capital is actively flowing from Bitcoin into altcoins. If the indicator is low, then altcoins are either consolidating or losing positions — in this case, the altseason has not yet arrived or has already ended.
The practical application is simple: when the indicator is rising, it can be a signal to enter promising altcoins. But the main thing is not to forget about risk management. Even during altseason, you need to set stop-losses, diversify your portfolio, and not put all your money into one asset. Volatility during altseason can be wild, and without proper risk management, you can lose everything.
So keep an eye on the altseason indicator, but remember that it is only a tool. The crypto market always has surprises, so trade carefully and always have an exit plan.
