I just realized something quite interesting about the crypto market right now. As Bitcoin is moving close to its ATH, people are starting to talk about an altcoin season again—the period when coins other than BTC surge in price and generate huge profits. But what exactly is an altcoin season, and how can you tell when it’s really happening?

In fact, an altcoin season is a golden period when altcoins grow strongly, with price ranges that can be anywhere from a few dozen percent to a few dozen times, or even hundreds of times, depending on the market’s FOMO level. This is a time when money flows from Bitcoin into other coins, creating tremendous opportunities for small retail investors. The problem is that an altcoin season doesn’t automatically come just because Bitcoin is rising. You need specific signals.

One of the most important indicators is Bitcoin Dominance—the ratio of BTC’s market cap to the total market cap of the market. When this number keeps declining, it shows that capital is flowing out of Bitcoin. But that alone isn’t enough. You also need to watch whether the total market cap is going up. If Dominance falls but Market Cap doesn’t increase, that could be a false signal. Conversely, if the Market Cap rises but Dominance still doesn’t decrease, then it also isn’t really an altcoin season.

Another indicator that’s also very useful is Total 2 (market cap excluding Bitcoin) and Total 3 (market cap consisting of altcoins only). When both of them rise together, that’s a pretty clear sign. In addition, the Altcoin Season Index also shows whether the proportion of coins in the top 50 is trending upward. If more than 75% are all increasing well, the market is entering an altcoin season.

Recently, I heard Anush Jafer from Mudrex Research share a pretty interesting perspective. He said that when Bitcoin accelerates and approaches new highs, it may spark fresh interest in altcoins—especially projects with unique technology. Areas like DeFi, Layer 2, and blockchain gaming could benefit greatly from this phase.

Jafer also pointed out two main factors that are currently affecting the market. First is the growing interest of institutions in Bitcoin—this helps stabilize prices and builds confidence. Second is that the regulatory environment is changing in a more positive direction. When you combine these two factors, they create an ideal environment for an altcoin season to really explode.

However, I need to emphasize something important. Even though an altcoin season can bring massive profits, it also carries significant risks. The crypto market is still highly volatile. Before jumping in, you need to analyze carefully and not follow the crowd. Clearly define your investment goals, thoroughly research each altcoin, and only invest in projects that have the potential for sustainable development.

Overall, an altcoin season is a real opportunity, but it’s also a challenge. Get mentally prepared, equip yourself with the right knowledge, and be ready for a new cycle. Hope that soon there will be an altcoin season that lasts and remains sustainable. Wishing everyone successful investments.
