Mars Finance News, May 6 — According to multiple foreign media reports, on May 5 local time, U.S. tech giant Apple Inc. reached a settlement in a class-action lawsuit, with a compensation amount of $250 million (about RMB 1.7 billion). The lawsuit arose because Apple delayed an artificial intelligence upgrade for its Siri voice assistant. The report said the matter originated from a public statement made at Apple’s 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference. At the time, Apple claimed it would roll out a series of AI upgrades for Siri; new features would be launched that autumn together with the new iPhone models. The company later also released related advertisements, touting these not-yet-mature AI features as the core selling points of the iPhone 16 series. However, in reality, when the iPhone 16 series was launched that year, it did not include the above-mentioned features. The plaintiffs said Apple promoted features that were “not available at the time and could not be achieved in the short term,” which constitutes false advertising and unfair competition. According to the latest information, Apple’s new version of Siri features will be unveiled in June this year at its global developer conference. (CCTV Finance)
