I just noticed something quite interesting about how Generation Z is transforming the cryptocurrency market. It turns out that a meme character called Chill Guy, who recently went viral on TikTok and Instagram, is now being listed in contract trading pairs on a major platform. The curious thing is that the price of CHILLGUY is at $0.02, with a movement of +5.20% over the last 24 hours, while MORPHO is moving at $2.28, with +5.42%.

This Chill Guy isn’t just any meme. The character was created by American artist Phillip Banks and depicts a relaxed anthropomorphic dog, wearing a gray sweater, blue jeans, and red sneakers, always with his hands in his pockets and a calm smile. The reason it became so viral is that Generation Z identifies with that carefree attitude toward a world that feels chaotic to them. Some comments you see on social media say things like, “My exams were a disaster, but I don’t care—I’m just a chill guy.”

What makes this even more interesting is that the Chill Guy phenomenon reflects something deeper: what some analysts call financial nihilism among young people. It’s similar to how the term “Goblin Mode” from Oxford 2022 represented that feeling of giving up in the face of circumstances. Young people just want to survive, not conquer the world.

Now comes the controversial part. Phillip Banks, the original creator, publicly said that he does not approve of his creation being used for cryptocurrency projects, and especially not for meme coins without backing. He even threatened legal action. But even so, Chill Guy ultimately ended up being listed in contract trading pairs by the platform, which opened a new door for unauthorized tokens.

Influential people such as the President of El Salvador and Elon Musk retweeted about this meme, which indirectly sparked price volatility. However, the dilemma here is interesting: while meme coins like CHIIKAWA and the Vatican mascot LUCE were rejected due to a lack of official license, Chill Guy managed to slip into trading pairs. This opens up a broader debate about copyright versus market freedom in the crypto space.

What we’re seeing is that Chill Guy has become a turning point. It’s not just another meme, but a symbol of how Gen Z culture and the crypto market are colliding in unexpected ways. And it seems this trend could keep expanding across other platforms. Definitely something to keep on the radar if you’re closely following how token markets evolve.
