LayerZero co-founder denies Kelp DAO's allegations; on-chain data shows they manually changed it to a "1/1" single DVN configuration.
Golden Finance reports that on May 6th, regarding recent accusations by Kelp DAO against LayerZero in the rsETH security incident, LayerZero CEO Bryan Pellegrino publicly responded on social media today and provided key technical details.
Pellegrino stated that the facts are not as Kelp claimed. According to immutable on-chain records, on April 1, 2024, KelpDAO proactively changed the cross-chain configuration of rsETH from the default “Multi-DVN” setting to the “1/1 single DVN” mode manually. He specifically pointed out that LayerZero’s official documentation has repeatedly issued prominent warnings prohibiting the use of this 1/1 configuration in production environments. He further added that the LayerZero team previously provided professional advice to Kelp DAO, consistently recommending the more secure “2/3 multi-signature scheme.” However, Kelp did not adopt this recommendation.
Pellegrino also revealed a key data point: during the operation of this 1/1 configuration, nearly 100% of the related cross-chain transaction volume came from rsETH itself. Pellegrino stated that LayerZero is currently awaiting the final review report from external security agencies, after which a full event analysis will be published. He implied that the root cause of this incident lies in the project team’s neglect of fundamental security principles.
