Colombia's Petro Seeks Caribbean Bitcoin Mining Hub in Santa Marta, Riohacha and Barranquilla

Colombian President Gustavo Petro said the Caribbean region could become a bitcoin mining hub, citing Colombia’s 21,286.9 megawatts of renewable energy capacity at the end of 2025. Petro pointed to Venezuela and Paraguay as nearby examples of clean-energy-backed mining investment. Petro also said he wants discussions with the Wayuu community so local people can take part in the project.
