U.S. Defense Secretary says Trump does not need to seek Congress approval to continue military actions against Iran

On May 5, local time, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said that, given that the current administration believes the ceasefire between the United States and Iran is still holding, President Trump does not need to seek congressional approval to continue military operations. Hegseth insisted that if Trump orders the resumption of military strike operations, discussions on the relevant matters would naturally follow at that time.

When asked about the possibility that combat operations could continue, Hegseth said, “This option is always on the table. Iran knows this well.” Hegseth said the president still has the opportunity and capability to restart large-scale combat operations. If Iran is unwilling to live up to its due commitments, or is unwilling to reach an agreement, the U.S. Department of Defense is in a state of high alert and readiness, prepared to act at any moment.

At the same time, Hegseth said he hopes the situation will not develop in that direction. (CCTV News)
