Former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman recently told American media that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has taken the United States down a path of “committing genocide in Gaza.” In an interview with Bloomberg, Sherman said, “Prime Minister Netanyahu has taken us down a road, and we have been part of it; this path essentially results in genocide in Gaza and undermines stability in the Middle East.” She also emphasized that Israel remains a U.S. ally, “We protect the rights of the Jewish state.”

The report noted that Sherman is the highest-ranking official in the Biden administration who has openly described Israel’s killing actions as genocide. Sherman stepped down in July 2023. On the evening of the 27th Eastern Time, Sherman wrote on social media about the interview: “Palestinians should be entitled to a future with dignity and security. Everyone should have peace.”

Data released on the 23rd by the health authorities in the Palestinian Gaza Strip showed that since the outbreak of the latest round of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on October 7, 2023, the Israeli military’s operations in Gaza have resulted in more than 72,000 deaths and more than 172,000 injuries. Since the ceasefire agreement took effect on October 10, 2025, 972 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military actions, and 2,235 have been injured. (Xinhua)
