CoinWorld News reports that today (May 6), Japan’s Type 88 shore-based anti-ship missile was fired for the first time during the U.S.-Philippines “Shoulder to Shoulder” joint military exercise held side by side. This marks the first time in Japan’s postwar period that it has launched an offensive missile outside its territory. In recent days, Japan participated in the U.S.-Philippines “Shoulder to Shoulder” joint military exercise for the first time as an official member, sending about 1,400 personnel and deploying weapons and equipment including the helicopter escort destroyer “Ise,” the destroyer “雷,” the Type 88 land-based anti-ship missile, and a C-130 transport aircraft.
