The United States announces that the “offensive” against Iran is over, and Trump halts the “Freedom Plan” to pause clearing the strait.
In a BlockBeats report, on May 6, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio told reporters at the White House on Tuesday: “Operation Epic Fury has already ended, and we have achieved the objectives of this operation.” He also explained that the next goal for the United States is to establish a safe transit area supported by naval and air forces, in order to restore ships’ ability to pass through and gradually rebuild all parties’ confidence in the safety of the route.
At the same time, Trump posted on social media, saying that the “Freedom Plan” to “facilitate” the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz will be paused in the short term. “Based on requests from Pakistan and other countries, and in light of the major military victories we have achieved in our actions against Iran, as well as the significant progress made on the comprehensive final agreement reached with Iran’s representatives, both sides have agreed that while the blockade measures will continue to remain in effect, the ‘Freedom Plan’ (that is, the action allowing ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz) will be suspended for a period of time, to see whether this agreement can ultimately be reached and signed.”
