Abstract generation in progress

According to monitoring by Beating, the Google Gemini App has introduced file generation capabilities, allowing users to directly create various formats such as TXT, Markdown, PDF, CSV, and configuration files within conversations. Users can also bundle multiple files into a ZIP for a single download. Although Google has not officially announced this feature, users discovered it through self-testing and shared it on social media. Screenshots from users indicate that Gemini executes code in the background using a Python sandbox to generate files, with the execution path set to /home/bard/. The sandbox has an independent working directory, allowing files to be retained and referenced across multiple conversation rounds. Users can first have Gemini generate five files and then request to package them into a ZIP in the next round, with Gemini able to recognize and handle previously created files. Additionally, Gemini supports direct generation of Google Docs and Google Sheets, while Slides has not yet been launched. Previously, Gemini’s code execution feature was limited to running Python scripts in the sandbox and returning text or Matplotlib charts, without the ability to export files. This update enables Gemini to deliver the outputs of code execution as standalone files to users, filling a gap in file handling capabilities that Claude already had but Gemini lacked.
