Study Finds AI Use in Cybercrime Skews to Spam, Not Advanced Hacking

Researchers who analyzed 97,895 cybercrime forum threads posted after ChatGPT’s launch found that AI use was concentrated in spam, fraud, and other low-end abuse rather than advanced hacking. The paper classified 97.3% of threads as not about using AI for crime and said “Dark AI” tools produced little evidence of working malware.
