Odaily Planet Daily News reports that, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the matter, a senior official in the Trump administration notified Iran on Sunday about the U.S. “guiding” of ships’ passage through the Strait of Hormuz and warned Tehran not to interfere. This private message suggests the White House wants to try to reduce the risk of a potential escalation of the situation. However, despite the warning, Iran launched a series of attacks on U.S. Navy vessels, commercial ships, and the United Arab Emirates. On Tuesday, U.S. Defense Secretary and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Cain played down Iran’s attacks and claimed that the ceasefire agreement is still in effect. Even so, some U.S. and Israeli officials believe that if the diplomatic deadlock continues, President Trump could order the resumption of hostilities later this week. (AXIOS website)
