Smartly choose from 40+ AI models, with 0% extra fees
Google, Microsoft, and xAI join, with all five major U.S. AI giants accepting government review before model releases
CryptoWorld News reports that Google, Microsoft, and xAI have reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce to provide the government with early versions of AI models before their public release, for capability and safety assessments. Along with OpenAI and Anthropic—already signed in 2024—five leading U.S. AI companies have now all joined this pre-release review mechanism. The assessment is led by the Department of Commerce’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation, whose predecessor was the AI Safety Research Institute established by the Biden administration in 2023 and which was renamed and rebuilt by the Trump administration last year. The center has completed more than 40 model assessments, including cutting-edge models that have not yet been released to the public. Existing agreements with OpenAI and Anthropic have also been renegotiated under the Trump AI Action Plan. Center Director Chris Fall said the new agreement will help “expand work aimed at the public interest at critical moments.” Before the agreement was announced, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration is considering establishing a government review process for AI tools via an executive order. White House officials said the relevant discussions remain speculative, and any announcement would come directly from the President himself.
