🇮🇳Cognizant is planning to cut 12,000–15,000 jobs worldwide.

And Indians are expected to be affected the most.
Project Leap = their internal AI restructuring programme.
$230–320M set aside. $200–270M just for severance and personnel costs.
This isn’t one off cost cutting It’s the IT services model cracking under AI.
Cognizant (like TCS, Infosys, Wipro) built its empire on cheap Indian labour + body shopping + “billable hours.”

Their clients now want AI agents that do the same work for pennies, 24/7, without visas or bench strength.
Mid-level engineers, project managers, and process guys are the first to go. Freshers are still being hired in some pockets because they’re even cheaper.
Real problem no one in Indian IT wants to admit:
The “study hard, get H-1B or onsite, retire rich” playbook is dead.
AI is demonetzing exactly the human capital India has invested in for 25 years.
