May 5, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the U.S. is taking action to ensure the safety of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and emphasized that it is not seeking conflict but is prepared to respond.

Hegseth said that the U.S. president has directed CENTCOM to restore commercial freedom of navigation in the strait, and currently U.S. merchant ships have completed passage with the assistance of U.S. warships, keeping the channel open. Meanwhile, hundreds of ships are waiting in line to pass.

He pointed out that Iran has long harassed shipping and attempted to "weaponize" key shipping routes for economic gain, calling such behavior "unacceptable." Hegseth warned that if Iran attacks commercial shipping, it will face an "overwhelming response."

Additionally, he stated that the U.S. is maintaining close communication with allies, shipping companies, and insurance agencies to stabilize the situation and called on the international community to share responsibility for shipping security at the appropriate time. #美国寻求战略比特币储备
