In 2003, SARS hit, and many schools in Beijing were closed.


A buddy of mine was studying in Haidian; the whole school was under lockdown, except for him.
Because he had sneaked out to the night market the day before and didn't come back all night.
When he returned the next morning, the school was sealed off, and the security guards wouldn't let him in.
He wandered outside the school for a month, living in internet cafes, eating instant noodles, living like a homeless person.
After a month, the lockdown was lifted, and he returned to school.
