Coin World News reports that, according to The Washington Post, 29 members of Congress jointly sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Rubio, urging the United States to disclose Israel’s nuclear weapons program. Since Israel’s nuclear weapons program has been conducted secretly since the late 1950s, Israel has neither acknowledged nor publicly disclosed how such weapons would be used. The lawmakers believe that, amid the serious threat of war with Iran and military escalation, the risks of misjudgment, escalation of the situation, and the use of nuclear weapons are not just theoretical. The letter states, “Congress has a constitutional responsibility to fully understand the nuclear balance in the Middle East, the risks that any side’s escalation of the conflict could occur, and the government’s plans and emergency measures in response to such situations.”
