WHO: Seven cases on the outbreak cruise ship, public risk remains low

The World Health Organization’s report on the hantavirus outbreak aboard the “Hondius” cruise ship released on the 4th shows that there are currently 7 cases on board. Based on current information and previous understanding of the virus, the overall risk to the public is low.

The latest WHO report released on the 4th states that the organization received a report on the 2nd that there were passengers on the “Hondius” with severe acute respiratory illness and deaths. As of the 4th, 7 cases have been reported, including 2 laboratory-confirmed hantavirus infections and 5 suspected cases, of which 3 have died, 1 is in critical condition, and the other 3 have mild symptoms. All patients developed symptoms between April 6 and 28, including fever, gastrointestinal discomfort, and in some cases rapidly progressing to pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and shock.
