Coinbase launches self-managed retirement fund crypto investment service in Australia
BlockBeats News, May 5th, Coinbase has launched crypto investment support for self-managed superannuation funds (SMSF) in Australia, providing trustees with asset diversification channels. Coinbase Asia-Pacific Managing Director John O’Loghlen and executive Pete Patanapanlert stated that the service supports data export in compliance with local accounting standards and offers entity certification processes optimized for local fund structures.
O’Loghlen said that as Australian regulation gradually clarifies and institutional adoption of digital assets increases, the company views SMSF as an important growth area and aims to help investors incorporate crypto assets into their retirement investment strategies. SMSF is a private retirement fund regulated by the Australian Taxation Office, allowing individuals to directly manage their pension investments, with asset allocations including stocks, real estate, and crypto assets.
Official data shows that by the end of 2025, there will be approximately 664,000 SMSFs in Australia, with total assets of about 1.06 trillion AUD (approximately 758.2 billion USD).
