I always wait until the last hour to vote, and the worst case is a congested chain, with transactions queuing in the mempool: standing at the entrance waiting for miners/validators to "flip the card," if your fee isn't enough, you'll be left waiting, and even later people can pay more to cut in line... By the time you think you're about to get in, the block might be full and push you back, which really messes with your mindset.

Recently, cross-chain bridges have had issues, and oracles have reported errors, everyone rushes to shout "wait for confirmation," which basically means that when the chain is uncertain, more people are queuing, and the lines get messier. I don't regret this: I'd rather be late and pay a little more in fees than get stuck halfway and start messing around with resubmissions, the more anxious I am, the easier it is to make mistakes. Anyway, I now remind myself half an hour in advance, don't rush at the last minute... but I often can't even do that, so whatever.
