Golden Finance reports that on May 5th, Ukrainian President Zelensky posted on social media on Monday evening, announcing Ukraine’s decision to unilaterally implement a ceasefire starting from midnight on the 6th. Zelensky stated that Russian social media networks said Russia would implement a ceasefire during Victory Day celebrations, but Ukraine has not received any official call from Russia to cease hostilities. Nevertheless, Ukraine has decided to implement a “silence” from midnight on the 6th and will take reciprocal actions from this designated time. Zelensky also said that Russian leaders should take real measures to end the war. His post did not specify the end time of Ukraine’s ceasefire.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that Russian Armed Forces Supreme Commander and President Putin decided to implement a Victory Day ceasefire from May 8th to 9th to commemorate the Soviet people’s victory in the Great Patriotic War, hoping Ukraine will follow Russia’s example.
