OpenAI executive departure wave continues: Sales Director Dyett will join Thrive Capital

According to Beating Monitoring, OpenAI Senior Sales Executive James Dyett announced his departure and will join venture capital firm Thrive Capital as an “Operator in Residence.” This is the latest personnel change at OpenAI following the recent departure of several executives from the product, marketing, and research departments.

Dyett joined during the explosive growth of ChatGPT in 2023 and previously managed OpenAI’s enterprise sales and API sales businesses. He explained on X platform that his departure was because he “longs more for the early stages of company building” and believes OpenAI’s current business is already very strong. He will provide experience support to startup founders at his new employer, Thrive.

Thrive Capital is a long-term supporter of OpenAI, and its founder Joshua Kushner has a close personal relationship with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
