OpenAI Sales Director James Dyett leaves to join venture capital firm Thrive Capital

Deep Tide TechFlow News, May 5th, according to CNBC reports, OpenAI sales leader James Dyett announced his departure on X platform on Monday. Dyett joined OpenAI in 2023, responsible for enterprise sales and API sales during his tenure. His LinkedIn profile shows his position as “Sales Manager,” while OpenAI describes him as “Senior Sales Executive.” OpenAI is currently valued at over $850B by private investors.

Dyett stated that he will join venture capital firm Thrive Capital as “Operator in Residence.” Thrive is a long-term investor in OpenAI, with founder Joshua Kushner having a close relationship with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

This departure is one of a series of recent executive changes at OpenAI. Product and business leader Fidji Simo announced a leave of absence last month due to worsening neuroimmune disease, marketing director Kate Rouch resigned for cancer recovery, and operations chief Brad Lightcap transitioned to a new role related to “special projects.” Additionally, former Sora short video app head Bill Peebles and OpenAI Vice President of Science Kevin Weil have also announced their departures.
