Trump Claims Iran Attacked Cargo Ship, Urges South Korea to Join Project Freedom
Donald Trump, via Truth Social, said that Iran launched an attack on a number of ships related to the Project Freedom operation, including a South Korean cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz. In his official statement, Trump called on South Korea to immediately join the military mission led by the United States to secure international trade routes.
In his claim, Trump said U.S. forces successfully disabled seven Iranian fast boats believed to threaten stability in the region. Although armed skirmishing occurred, he emphasized that so far there has been no additional damage to other ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, other than the incident involving the South Korean cargo ship.
The situation on this vital logistics route is predicted to affect sentiment in the crypto market and global commodities if escalation continues. In response to these developments, Defense Minister Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine are scheduled to hold an official press conference on Tuesday morning (5/5) local time to provide further details regarding the U.S. military operation in the area.
